V Involved Staffordshire.

For the design I was asked to design a opening for a documentary. I don’t really know much about the documentary or any background on the V involved Staffordshire. All I knew about it was the target age which was teenagers I was given a few images that I needed to use and was told in must say V Involved Staffordshire. To be honest I didn’t enjoy this project that I was asked to do. I was asked to do this opening by a group of media students that were involved in the filming of the documentary. I was give a few hours to do the animation, which really wasn’t much time to do the work, but I gave it my best shot. I started cutting around the image that I was given and saved them as a png file.

I set up the background with the time I had to finish the work I knew that I would be pushed to finish. I created some music to go with the animation, I created the music in Garage Band. I started with the first V image bouncing to the music and coming forward to the screen.

It then pans across and another V image follows.

I had this idea of having different thing happening for each image.

For the paint image I decide for the image to come across from the left then go down and as this happened paint spatters would appear. I didn’t plan out what I was going to do I just did it as I went along. This really isn’t the best way of working but because of time I thought this would be easier.

Another V image comes down and it looks like a book so I create this effect of words falling into the book.

I then rendered it of and gave it to the students. They loved the work however the person they did the documentary had a few comment about it like it not having the V Involved logo, which she failed to give me. I felt really annoyed with the fact that I was told about it and I agreed to do the work then it took then ages to give me the information, which was not much really just a few images. Then the person who they were doing the documentary for, then commented on the fact that the logo wasn’t used when it was her fault for not given it to anyone. The fact is if they asked me sooner I would have had more time to design and get more information, however I am very pleased with the finished produce.

I realise the Staffordshire is spelt wrong and is a brilliant example of why you should proof read everything but sometimes time is not on your side. I have corrected this and will be uploading the correct file as some point.

Hewlett Packard D&AD project.

For the D&AD project we had free range on the piece of work. It could be a poster, website, animation anything you want as long as it has the Hewlett Packard logo on it. My first idea was to design a poster however I then decided to do an animation.

Because all I had was some images of the logo I decided to get a camera and go and take some photos of Hewlett Packard products like computers and printers. This is the opening for the animation I created.

As you can see I’ve gone for yet another light streak effect, however this one is made up from lots of different particles and a lens flare. I tried this effect out before and really liked the effect and thought that it would look good added to this design.

As you can see the light streak follows the edge of the computer, then fly’s off screen and fades out I feel that this effect looks good and eye catching.

Then after that the logo appears and the same effects fly’s around the logo. I enjoyed doing this project and feel the end out come is really effective. I would of like to have entered the D&AD competition however sadly couldn’t due to payment.

Admen Website Intro.

A adverting agency asked me to design a opening animation for their new website that they were planning on setting up. They wanted something modern that would attract people they had this idea of a light streak that fly’s around then disintegrates to then show the logo. They gave me all the information and were very clear on colour and what should go on in the animation.

This is the start as to can see there is a orange light streak that fly’s around just as they ask. I did the animation in After Effects I started with a few layers I had the background which is black. I then added a solid layer this is for the particles that fly’s around. I used plugging called trapcode particular, this plugging gives you small particles however at a later time I would then can this to run of a layer not the standard particles that it gives you as a default. I then added a light, which I called an emitter I made it a point light. I then added a adjustment layer and called this colour fx this is what changes the colour of the particles. I draw up a shape for the light streak in a new composition then dragged it in to my other composition then linked it to the trapcode particular then changed some settings in the trapcode particular. Added a wiggle to the Emitter to make the streak move. I then changed the colour with a hue and saturation then added a glow.

I panned a camera to zoom into the light streak I felt very confident in doing this piece of work as I have done a similar thing before. I didn’t really hit any problems. I didn’t know how I was going to make the streak sort off disintegrate. I then found a plugging called cc scatterize.

This is the effect of the cc scatterize this is just what I wanted I then wanted it to materialize back to the Admen logo.

I am very please with the final outcome and so were the designers at Admen this is now being used on their website as a opening page.

Design Idea

For the florist website i design a few ideas, both of the ideas were simple limited text and information just to get the idea, i used vector images which i was considering animating to make the vector plant look like they were growing. however she as not got back to use as a group so we all have it in our mind that shes just not bothered about the site no more as she was on about closing the shop in one of the email. the fact that she has just not bothered to get in touch seems a bit lazy and rude if the website was not needed then she should reply to our emails to state that she does not wish for the site else we are just wasting time. however the experiance has proved that some clients can be picky and this was a learning curve that some clients can be hard to please. i produce a gallery for the website that will come in useful for another site or gallery. it simple but looks effective when you click a image it breaks apart the reforms another image. the design for the gallery was good and effective it involes the audience and gets them to interact.

Harris Brush Front Cover.

This is a finished catalogue front cover that I designed. I was approached by a advertise agency called Admen, they asked me to design light streaks to look like dusk particles. I felt that this would be an easy brief and was looking forward to it. I had lots of ideas coming to mind.  I knew that this would be best designed in After Effects. I knew that if I did the lights streaks and particles in After Effects and then could be finished in Photoshop. This work wasn’t a project handed by the tutors however I was told that I could put it forward. I though this was good as it means that I would get more marks and also good experience of working with a client. The main thing that what going though my mind was the fact that I have to make it look good as the piece was for a big DIY company and for advertising agency that was treating me as if I was a freelancer. They gave me a ruff design that they did of what they had in mind. The first design I did didn’t really look like what they give to me as their idea, so I redesigned it. It took longer but I wasn’t happy with what I did it was very basic and I just knew I could do better. It took a few hours to design.

Clothing Website.

When I first heard that we were designing a website for a company called Retrospect my first thoughts were this is just free labour. I understood that it could help us in the long run as it’s a real client however I just thought that if every college did this what happens to the advertising agencies out their, so I asked myself is this effecting advertising agencies? I feel that it is affecting them because were doing this for free, if the college said no then they would have had to get a

company that does websites to design one. But with us doing

the website were taking their work from them and making then lose money. The reason I feel that it’s a problem is the fact that hopefully in the future I will have a job in design however I see that free designs would block that as more people will be using college students to get work from.

The owners of the business Retrospect came into talk to us. I though this was good as we could really find out exactly what they want from us. They didn’t really speak to us as much as they did to our tutor but we found out what they wanted from us, which were:

·          Website designs.

·          Black and yellow colour.

·          They told us that their company was a clothing company so they wanted something like a normal clothing website.

·          Some sort of payment method.

I think that we should have contacted them back after the meeting thanking them for coming down and also clarifying what they told us in the meeting. This would have ensured that we had full understanding of the brief and also given them the chance to change any decisions that they made. I started researching different styles of websites and then started work on designing ideas. They didn’t contact us back and the project got left. I feel that we should of finished the work anyway.

This was my design idea:
